Control Laws Engineer


The On Demand Mobility (ODM) Program at Bell is developing new concepts of vertical lift which will help transform the way that man flies.In this new and exciting field of vertical lift featuring optionally manned and unmanned vehicles, the Handling Qualities and Control Law Lead Engineer will be responsible for:

- Creating analytical and simulation models of the designs

- Aircraft Stability and Control Design and Analysis

- Conducting wind tunnel tests, reducing data, and incorporating results into simulation math model

- Developing aircraft Control Laws and integrating these into flight simulation programs

- Linear and non-linear analysis of flight control systems

- Analyzing the aircraft handling qualities and comparing results to aircraft requirements and specifications

- Conducting aircraft flight tests of model and full-scale designs

- Lead and mentor other engineers on the program

- Interface with other functions and management on the program


Education Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree is required. Major in Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical Engineering is preferred. Related degrees with relevant experience will be considered.Masters degree in Engineering is preferred.

Position Requirements:

  • At least 10 years of relevant experience in Aerospace industry is required

  • Must be a proven self-starter requiring minimal supervision, with excellent written and oral communication skills, and

PC skills.

Familiarity with the following is preferred:

  • Wind tunnel testing

. 6 degree of freedom simulation models

. Model-based systems engineering

  • MathWorks MATLAB / Simulink with Stateflow and Embedded Coder

  • ADS-33 and other Handling Qualities specifications

. Aircraft Parameter Identification

. Control Law Optimization

  • Aircraft flight test

  • Experience with Enovia, DOORS, and Serena Dimensions

  • Flight control system development and testing in a systems integration lab

  • 14 CFR Part 27 and Part 29 for commercial rotorcraft certification

. Military rotorcraft qualification

. Candidates must be eligible to obtain Secret Security Clearance
