Embedded Software Engineer

Bell Helicopter is seeking a self-motivated Embedded Software Engineer to join Bell’s Innovation Team and support the development of new and novel products and platforms. The embedded software requirements associated with the integration of vehicles in urban environments, including Air Taxi and Logistics transportation/delivery are challenging and exciting. The emerging concept vehicles provide opportunities for software engineering, simulation and test of configurations and technologies that will shape the future of aviation. This position will be part of a diverse team of engineers capable of executing in a fast-paced environment.

Engineering opportunities are available in the development, integration, and testing of Autonomous and Unmanned Systems.


  • Design and test of implementations that interface with Flight Control Systems (FCS) and embedded DO-178 software and DO-254 complex hardware, including Fly-By-Wire Flight Control Systems Software design, requirements management, systems specifications, interface management, system safety assessment, verification and validation testing in desktop simulation environment and systems integration labs, aircraft flight test, and aircraft/system qualification and certification

  • Participation in development of subsystems architecture, redundancy management, electronic hardware design and integration, and actuator design and integration


Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree is required.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Electrical orAerospace Engineering.

  • Applied Sciences (Physics) Mechanical Engineering may beconsidered with applicable embedded control systems development experience.

  • Master’s Degree in the Engineering disciplines mentionedabove is suggested.

Position Requirements:

  • Experience at all levels will be considered with a minimumof 2 years specific experience with embedded software development. Preferencewill be given for additional work in sensor and actuator controls, avionics, orelectrical systems integration, development, and testing.

  • Familiarity with relevant standards, for example, most orall of: RTCA DO-160, MIL-STD-810, RTCA DO-178, RTCA DO-254, SAE ARP4754A, SAEARP4761, 14 CFR Part 27 and Part 29 for commercial and military qualificationand certification of aircraft systems.

  • Experience with most or all of the following PrimaryDevelopment Environment tools, or equivalent:

o MathWorks MATLAB / Simulink with Stateflow and EmbeddedCoder

o C/C code

o C# test scripts

o Git

o Embedded Software Development environments

o Protocol and network analyzers
