Fatigue, Materials and Processes Engineer

The Fatigue, Materials and Processes IPT is responsible for the following:

  • Maintain design allowables to be used across the program

  • Provide general guidance to multiple Integrated Product Teams in regards to material selection and testing

  • Create, review, and revise program plans for long-term Material and Process advanced technology integration

  • Develop and execute a plan for fatigue qualification of the aircraft structure

  • Flight test support including real-time telemetry monitoring of limits and tracking of fatigue damage to critical components

  • Ensure communication between laboratories and program

The successful candidate for this position will be able to:

  • Knowledgably engage Subject Matter Experts within the company on a variety of topics including metallic materials, non-metallic materials, fatigue analysis, and damage tolerance qualification

  • Communicate effectively with external contacts including vendors, customers, and/or end users

  • Develop point design and fatigue criteria for material development and structural analysis

  • Work closely with other program IPTs including Design, Analysis, and Strategic Sourcing

  • Turn ideas and concepts into executable plans leading to rotorcraft qualification

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Materials, Material Science, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or equivalent technical degree

  • Proven self-starter requiring minimal supervision

  • Experience with fatigue and fracture mechanics analysis

  • Experience with metallic and non-metallic materials

  • Proficiency with standard office computing software

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Preferred:

  • Experience with material and component qualification test programs, specifically damage tolerance analysis and qualification methodologies

  • Experience with aerospace industry materials and processing specifications and regulatory requirements

  • Knowledge of military rotorcraft qualification process

  • Knowledge of Bell and industry analysis tools including CAFTA, iFACTS, and AFGROW
