Job Summary: Prepares cost estimates for manufacturing of products or services.


  1. Computes cost estimates for production activities.

  2. Develops make or buy analyses utilizing available cost data history and/or vendor quotations.

  3. Works with engineering personnel in determining designs that ensure the most

  4. efficient method of manufacturing.

  5. Supports proposal personnel in audits and negotiations.

  6. Gathers data to compare the manufacturing hours that were bid on a project against the hours needed to execute the project.



  1. Detailed knowledge of mechanical and electrical fabrication and finishing methods and equipment.

  2. General knowledge of company procedures and methods of operation.

  3. Knowledge of military and commercial specifications.

  4. Written and oral communication skills which support cooperation with proposal personnel and support organizations.

  5. Ability to utilize sketches, drawings, bills of material, prototypes, specifications, and bid requests to determine manufacturing cost requirements and levels of participation in programs.

  6. Ability to support final cost estimates in contract negotiations.

  7. Basic personal computer skills, e.g., spreadsheet, word processing.

  8. Ability to work well with others as part of the proposal team

  9. Desire to continuously improve the estimating job function

  10. Experience with DCMA and/or DCAA is a plus


A Bachelors degree strongly preferred and three or more years related experience in manufacturing fabrication, tool design, process planning or quality control. Bachelors degree in Industrial Engineering preferred.
